'Free the weed': At Alpenglow Festival, it took a village to educate about cannabis

“It’s the first time ever that a music concert — a family friendly environment — has allowed a cannabis-centric event to happen,” Eugenio Garcia, co-founder and publisher of Cannabis Now, said. “It’s not the anti-beer garden, but it’s almost the progressive celebration opportunity for the community that is an alternative to alcohol.”

‘Hemp loophole’ closure pits patient access against a runaway marijuana industry

Proposed federal action to close the 2018 Farm Bill “hemp loophole” would restrict or ban many hemp-derived cannabinoid products that are currently legal nationwide. While intended to tighten regulation and address public health concerns, critics warn the change could limit patient access to products used for pain, anxiety, sleep, and nausea—especially in states without strong medical cannabis programs—potentially leaving patients with fewer legal options.

Founder steps down as NCIA looks ahead

The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) announced that its founding CEO, Aaron Smith, will step down on August 15, 2025, after 15 years leading the organization, though he will remain on its board to help ensure a smooth transition. During his tenure, Smith helped build NCIA into the largest U.S. cannabis trade group and a major voice in federal policy advocacy. Leadership will shift to NCIA’s Board of Directors, chaired by Adam Rosenberg, with Brooke Gilbert promoted to Chief Operating Officer, as the association enters its next chapter of growth and advocacy for the cannabis industry.
