‘Hemp loophole’ closure pits patient access against a runaway marijuana industry
Proposed federal action to close the 2018 Farm Bill “hemp loophole” would restrict or ban many hemp-derived cannabinoid products that are currently legal nationwide. While intended to tighten regulation and address public health concerns, critics warn the change could limit patient access to products used for pain, anxiety, sleep, and nausea—especially in states without strong medical cannabis programs—potentially leaving patients with fewer legal options.

Founder steps down as NCIA looks ahead
The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) announced that its founding CEO, Aaron Smith, will step down on August 15, 2025, after 15 years leading the organization, though he will remain on its board to help ensure a smooth transition. During his tenure, Smith helped build NCIA into the largest U.S. cannabis trade group and a major voice in federal policy advocacy. Leadership will shift to NCIA’s Board of Directors, chaired by Adam Rosenberg, with Brooke Gilbert promoted to Chief Operating Officer, as the association enters its next chapter of growth and advocacy for the cannabis industry.

First Las Vegas Vlasic Classic Adds to Over $140,000 Raised for Justice Reform and Second Chances
The first Las Vegas Vlasic Classic, hosted by Vlasic Labs at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort in partnership with the Paiute Tribe and Nuwu Cannabis, marked Nevada’s first cannabis-compliant golf tournament and helped raise more than $17,500 for groups supporting justice reform and second-chance initiatives.
